Choosing a cutting by Ryan Ouellette (done at SW2 and photographed by Atom Moore) for our Halloween update had nothing to do with him dressing in all black or being Prince of Darkness-ey. Total coincidence.
That said, this flesh removal of a spooooky bat (which was one of two pieces that David had Ryan do at the event) seems to fit in perfectly.
Happy Halloween everyone!

John Joyce and Brian Decker were both cutting my face when Casey took this picture. It was either the last cutting or close to it of the last night of Scarwars3 in Philadelphia, October of 2007.
The boys were cutting into scar tissue from my previous facial cutting(s) and the pain was starting to spike. My friend Klein came over and took my hand and squeezed it. Followed by Sarvas, Christiane and Håvve. Hand after hand grabbing me, reminding me that I was doing just fine. To this day, I don’t know how many of my friends were holding me. Most of the SW guests had gone home with just a core groups of die-hards still hanging around. The feeling of safety and of my friends looking out for me was one of the most amazing things that came out of the weekend for me.

When I was preparing the second SW in late 2005 I received a letter in the mail from a young lady who was confirming her invite for the West Coast event. Most people took care of that online, but Sam went oldschool with actual mail and, in a move that I still find adorable, included a photocopy of her driver’s license so I’d be able to recognize her at the event.
I was fortunate enough to have booked my friend Rachel (owner of BME and all around renaissance woman*) as the portrait photographer for that event; while the photo on Sam’s driver’s license was good, the pictures Rachel captured of her are, I think, much more flattering. (I think I still have that photocopy somewhere)
(PS: you can see more of Sam here, here, here and here. Her lotus cutting was done by John Joyce and Brian Decker.
*Rachel would like it mention that, despite my claim of her being a renaissance woman, she will not be eating any turkey legs at the Renn Faire.

I could church up this entry and try to talk about how liberating it was for Vampy to do this piece topless; how Gillstrap wasn’t wearing a shirt either and that anatomically, there’s no difference. Instead I’ll say that Vampy is a great sport and cutting topless is fun.
I stole this from my friend Ammre.

Lately I’ve been posting a lot of octopus cuttings; until tonight Brian Decker was the man behind all of the cephalopod action. I don’t think there’s any underlying symbolism here, octopi just look cool and make for an interesting design. This one, on my friend Maxine, was done by the talented hands of Wayde “Thunda” Dunn while visiting in Philadelphia and was photographed by the awesomely named MANDIC.
In progress shot after the break.
