I shot a short video of our own Brian Decker playing with a mud soaked/raincoat wearing Boston Terrier this weekend. I had intended to put it up tonight, but decided to go with this octopus cutting instead.
Brian tells me that the suction cups were done with 2mm dermal punches. Really tight lines and good technique on this one.

The first time I met Andy, he walked up to me and extended his hand; “Hey Shawn, I’m Andy. I hear we have a lot in common.”
I rarely remember first meetings. Events and people blend together, but over the course of the evening in question I started to get to know him and sure enough we had plenty in common.
For the few short years that I knew him, I found out just how much. We agreed on as many things as we disagreed on, which is what I’d call a friendship. Never humoring each other or fearing to bring up a counterpoint when necessary, we’d shoot messages back and forth debating and laughing, often surprised that we agreed on something that we thought the other one would shoot down.
Our last big arc of conversation was on the state of body modification. He said to me “The industry has been caught with it’s pants down, and there’s no one telling it to pull them up.” Unfortunately he’ll never have the chance to be the one who does. He was 30 years old at the time of his passing.
To his family; my sincerest condolences on your loss. To his friends; remember him.

As promised… here is a picture of Sylvia that shows the most recent progress of her healed cuttings/branding. The cuttings (there’s one more after the break- flowers by John Joyce on her stomach) healed fairly typically. (which sounds very clinical. I should say they healed beautifully) The photo was taken yesterday (August 29th 2009) in Pittsfield, Ma.
Sylvia asked me to point out that while the branding didn’t heal as expected, she’s never been anything less than 100% in love with it.
Keep reading after the break for more!

Claire and I are headed up to Pittsfield, MA for the annual Rites of Passage Campout. Suspensions, BBQ and good times!
I’ll check back in a few days!

Another killer piece from Lewis Dodd of Glorybound Tattoos in the UK… the bold simplicity of traditional tattoo imagery translates so well to cutting, and Lewis certainly has a way with it. I’m going to try to convince him to come over to the States next year to cut along-side the SW alumni at Scarwars 4…

It’s impossible to tell how a cutting/branding will heal; I’ve said it before, but it seems to be combination of skill, aftercare, genetics and more than a little bit of luck.
Sylvia had a very simple strike branding done several years ago by my old friend Blair.
The branding was expertly done; Sylvia followed the aftercare to the letter. But genetics and luck stepped in and she continued forming scar tissue well past the desired result. After the break there are sequential photos (one that’s not work safe) of the scar’s progress.
